SANPARKS’: Captured Experiences Banquet – 9 April 2011
When the coordinators of this competition decided on the theme and name for it, they couldn’t have made a better choice. “CAPTURED EXPERIENCES”.
In most cases on my BLOG I prefer my pictures to do the talking. I write as little as possible, but with this venture I will go all out and share what I experienced while capturing these shots. Although I didn’t enter the competition, my little bit of involvement has been a great experience on its own. In my career as a photographer this event is by far the cherry on top.
I were first introduced to this event by Henriëtte Engelbrecht (co-organizer and judge of the competition). She wanted me to do the photo shoot for the food and the dress code to be used on their website, invites and the menu. On the day we did the food shots Henriëtte jumped up and down, up and down every time she view the pics on the camera LCD. While jumping she was clapping her hands very excited. Pity I could capture the expression on her face. The shoot of the dress code wasn’t any different – full of energy and excitement. The one thing that I’ve learned so many times during photo shoots – You really need to improvise. The studio shot of the models posing with the “sparkling wine” – actually is Carling Black Label – Henriëtte’s creativity
The more Henriëtte told me about the event, the more I liked the concept and the more I wished I could attend it as well. My wish came true when she asked me to cover the event. I nearly jumped out of my skin.
To me this event brought a whole lot of “FIRST TIMES”.
The first time I did food shots.
My first time dressed in a black suit and bow tie.
The first time I’ve ever been to the Kalahari and the Kgalagadi Transfontier Park.
My first overnight in a tent.
The first time I was surrounded by more than hundred other super photographers.
Let me summaries the day. We left Upington very early the morning of the 9th. Upon arrival at the park we found an ants nest of activities. It was evident that something BIG was coming up. By 16H00 we were ferried to the venue.
To me is it was absolutely an awesome EXPERIENCE. But most of all – the honor to CAPTURE it.

The photographers are magnificent and so blessed to have received such an amazing gift from above! I truly hope we get to experience something like this again!
Hi Cornel,
